There comes a time in life when you know you just must write your resume, you must update it, you must start fresh, find a new job, etc. In order to create your life better and increase your opportunities of getting the job you want, you must start working on the one thing that can help you get all that – YOUR RESUME!

A perfect resume can be a game changer, a life saver and it can almost guarantee getting that new job you had in mind for a long time. It’s time you start working on creating your future, and the best way to do that is by starting to create your resume first.

 

When it comes to resumes, there are several things to be decided. The first thing of course is to decide what type of resume you are going to create in order to represent yourself in the best light possible. There are multiple types of resumes and what type you choose for yourself depends on many factors. There are countless resume options and formats, but these 3 types are the most common ones:

 

Ø  Chronological Order Resume. This type of resume usually works best for people who have had a wide and large work experience. In order to create this kind of resume, you need to chronologically write all your past work experiences, most often in a reverse chronological order. Apart from your work experience you also write your educational background, again starting from the most recent accomplishment. This type of resume can sometimes be difficult to create for people who don’t have much job experience. This is why there are other types that can be better for these people.

Ø  Functional Resume. A functional kind of resume is mostly used if you haven’t had much previous work experience or if you have some larger free gaps of unemployment. Here you don’t have to chronologically write down every job you ever had, but instead you will focus on your skills and abilities in a way that will contribute to this specific job. You can again write down your work experience but it doesn’t have to be in a chronological order, and you will put only the jobs you think can relate to this one. This is why a functional resume can be a good start for people who are new to the job market.

Ø  Combined Resume. This is so far claimed to be the most often used type of resume. The reason why this is so is because a combined resume has many advantages. As the name itself applies, it is a combination of a chronological and a functional resume. This means that it contains your skills and accomplishments listed as well as your previous work experience in a reverse chronological order, starting from the most recent job you had.
